History

Sojourn Church began as a gathering of Christians in Belleville, Illinois who shared a common desire and a common need.

The desire was for the glory of God. The need was for a Biblical local church.

Under the guidance of Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort and with the support of the North American Mission Board, the Illinois State Baptist Association, and the Bethel Network. Sojourn started meeting as a church on June 1st, 2013. In the years since, God has provided us with two buildings, and taken away one of them. He has added members, and He has called members to leave Belleville and serve Him elsewhere. He has protected the church from multiple heresies and false teachers who sought to lead us away from the faith once for all delivered to the saints. Through everything, the commitment of the church has been to provide faithful Biblical teaching and make faithful disciples of Christ.

In the summer of 2016, Sojourn commissioned, sent out, and began financially supporting our first family of missionaries. They have just completed their training and are about to begin their first missionary assignment.

In the Fall of 2017, Sojourn ordained its first deacons: John Presswood and Jim Stuller, we are tremendously grateful for their faithful service to the church.

In the summer of 2018, Sojourn recognized Manny Forbes’ call to pastoral ministry and recommended him to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for training, Manny has been accepted into the Seminary, and we are excited to see what God does through Manny in the years ahead.
